3 Steps to How to Light A Cigar

Smoking a cigar involves some rituals such as cutting, toasting, and lightning. It’s a wonderful experience – spending quality time with a quality cigar of your choice. Lighting a cigar is very different to a smoking cigarette. Where you simply light the tip, and you’re good to go. Lighting a cigar is more like the way you toast your marshmallow on a campfire – keeping the cigar above the flame and not letting the flame touch it while rotating your cigar.

So here how you should do it.

1. Light the lighter on one hand while you grip the cigar on the other hand and place it in your mouth.

2. Position the foot of your cigar just above the flame, but do not let the cigar touch the flame.

3. Begin slowly rotating the cigar while puffing. Depending on the size of your cigar you may have to continue to puff while still turning it above the flame for at least 10 to 20 seconds or until you feel the smoke in your mouth.

An optional method you can use is lightly blowing the foot of your cigar to make sure that the light is evenly distributed. To check if your cigar is completely lit, turn the lit end towards your mouth and gently blow on it; the lit portions will light up orange.

Another thing to consider in lighting your cigar is the kind of lighter you choose. We recommend a butane lighter or long wooden matches and avoid short matches. Cigarette lighters, candles or scented candles aren't advisable because introducing any foreign substance into your cigar will significantly affect its taste.
